Come and stay at the Royal Okarito!

The Royal Okarito Hostel is a real haven, away from the main tourist trail, situated within a stone's throw of dramatic West Coast beaches, close to the glacier township of Franz Josef.

We have a range of rooms available, from dorm beds through to ensuite doubles and twins.

Okarito itself is a small coastal community located off Highway 6, between Whataroa and Franz Josef, in an area that is home to stunning scenery, fabulous sunsets and also the rare and endangered kiwi.

While you are staying with us, you can kayak on the Okarito Lagoon, the home to Kotukos (white herons) and paddle up estuarine rivers surrounded by rainforest. Single and double kayaks are available to rent locally.

Alternatively, there are several beautiful hikes in the region, such as up to the famous Okarito Trig, or along the beach to 3-mile lagoon, then back to Okarito through the rainforest. And with a colony of native kiwis nearby, it's a great place to go kiwi-spotting at night!
